May. 18th, 2008 @ 10:56 am the best laid plans....
And so, we finally get a PERFECT weekend (as least with regards to the weather) and I have to work. I knew it was coming, and it's not a horrible thing, but still... it's pretty out there (ok, and I can enjoy it in here as well, what with the sun-room and the windows being open and all)

Did errands and outside play-time yesterday before setting up to work from home. SWEET (if ugly) setup if I do say so myself. workin' on the laptop in the living room (sadly on a wire, not wireless) with my ergonomic keyboard attached (as work is MUCH easier with the numeric keypad) with dvds in the player and snacks here on the table. Is all good! At some point I'm going to have to fill out my timesheet with how much time I worked yesterday, but it's gonna be a guess at best because it was "work a bit, play a bit" and I didn't keep super-close attention. Also had several delightful interludes with phone calls from far-away friends.

But things aren't working. Not the way they are supposed to. For reasons that pass my understanding, calls to subroutines are corrupting large swaths of my available variables and this is VERY bad. Attempts to isolate the offending code in "test" programs are, of course, netting perfectly working results, so I'm thinking it's something in the uber-complex set-up of this particular set of programs. Have requested help (and will be getting it!) from one of our gurus at work.

In the meantime, I'm supposed to be walking out the door to have lunch and visit an art-fair with mom, and I've not yet showered and the clothes I hope to wear today are still in the dryer. Best jump, with luck I'll only be a half-hour late.

Of course, since this is all still unresolved I'll be working again when I get home tonight.... what fun!

(no sympathy needed for the work, I don't mind the occasional weekend of work, and I saw this one coming a LOOONG time off. I'm not upset about that at all. I am mildly annoyed at this weird "corrupting of the variables" error which is preventing me from testing the logic of my program. THAT'S the annoying part!!! (and that figuring out what is wrong with it is really beyond my abilities, and thus I have to rely on others) (others who, it must be said, are QUITE dedicated and willing to give up parts of their weekends to help, with no notice whatsoever)

OK, so, I am out doing shows all day today. I have a few hours till my next show. So, I figure I'll go have lunch at Panera and use their free Wi-Fi.

But, there is a problem. There are NO TABLES. Anywhere. So, I am out in the parking lot in my car, windows rolled down (cuz it's a beautiful day), siphoning off of their internet without buying food. I WOULD be in there giving them my money, but I can't. So, I'll continue to leech for a bit longer, then go find a place I can actually get into to eat.

I know. It's been forever since I posted here, and I give you this lame, content-free post.

Deal.

May. 16th, 2008 @ 08:53 am 23 = husband

My score is better as a husband than as a wife. Shocking.

My demerits remain either way, such as:
-Eats onions, radishes or garlic before dates or going to bed.

I get a few extra Merits that weren't on the Wife Merit list, such as:
-Gives real movie kisses, not just a peck on the cheek.

The responses to my last post brought up another bias;
is your score better if you take the poll for yourself or if your spouse takes it for you?

So, ok gravity itself isn't really to blame... Gravel trucks suck... Today on my way back from lunch a hunk of gravel bounced up from a truck in front of me and broke my windshield. I'm not happy about that... However, I called the insurance company, and in 20 minutes time, I had an appointment to have my windshield replaced at work tomorrow morning. Not bad at all for turnaround time.

An exciting EVENT happened at my place both last night and this morning, though I'm not sure it'd be a big deal for anyone but me. But...
BELLA LET ME PET HER!!!

Both last night at dinner and this morning at breakfast Bella actually LET me pet her. Briefly, tis true, but multiple strokes, multiple times, WITHOUT freaking. Granted, this was while she was nose-down in the bowl of kibble, and not the first times that I've touched her while she was nose-down in kibble, but every time, until last night, as SOON as she felt my touch she'd JERK away out of reach. As of last night, I was able to actually pet her, touch her, stroke her back without her pulling back or running away. This morning I kept it small, just two light strokes down her back, strokes for other kitties around the dish, two more light strokes down her back and SHE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK UP OR EVEN FLINCH!

This "pettin while eatin" was how I made my first physical contact with her brother several months ago, so I'm taking this as a GREAT sign!!!

(and no, the scars have NOT yet faded from my last encouter, so yes, I'm taking it VERY slow and NOT pushing)

May. 15th, 2008 @ 11:05 am -3 = wife

I was hoping for worse.  Oh well. One can only be so bad.

Among my demerits: lack of children.  Walks around house in stocking feet.  Does not wave or curl hair. Tells stories using profane language.

Among my merits: does not wear red nail polish.

"You earned a total of 42 demerits and 39 merits, resulting in an overall score of -3.
This classifies you as a very poor wife - FAILURE! (At least by 1930s standards.)
Remember, this test reflects the attitudes of another era, and the personal bias of Dr. Crane regarding what was important for marital harmony. Please don't email me to complain about your score - complain to your parents for not raising you to be a perfect wife from the 1930s! "

Ok, I am a little slow in hearing about this, but WOW this is freaking cool. Disney / Muppet Labs have an AWESOME mobile anamatronic. "The Muppet Mobile Labs" featuring Dr Bunsen Honeydew, and Beaker!!!! My two favorite Muppets out wandering the park in their version of a segway and they are fully interactive... This whole setup is amazing...

There has to be something I can come up with along these lines (not as cool or as smooth in motion I'm sure) for Halloween though...Muppet Mobile Labs
