May. 8th, 2008 @ 11:43 am On the road

I get off work at 2pm today, and I hope to be on the road by 3. (Yeah, like that’s gonna happen.)

I may be able to post during the trip, but that will depend on time and Mary Lou’s willingness to share her laptop.

For anyone who is interested, we plan on attending the Tennessee Renaissance Festival outside of Nashville on Saturday, weather permitting. This will be our first time at this faire, and I am looking forward to seeing Empty Hats, Porter & Stout, and Axel the Sot (who I have known for several years, but have not seen since his season at Bristol – unless that was 2004, in which case it was since my last season at KCRF). Of course, I will see Craig of Farrington as well, but none of the others will be at Bristol this year.

After that, off to Gatlinburg.

Oh man! I wish I'd known this... I had planned to be at TenRen this weekend myself, and ended up canceling just last week. My brother lives almost literally across the street from the faire site and had offered bed space to me and any of my faire friends who needed a place to stay (and his house is wheelchair accessible, too.) We'll have to try to coordinate next year - my sister-in-law is a damn good cook, too.

And Gatlinburg is lovely. Be sure to stop in at Arrowmont - it's an art school there right down the street from the big mini-golf place. There's a little brick bus stop area right on the main drag, and Arrowmont has an amazing shop there where local artists sell their work. SUCH a nice reprieve from the endless tourist-trap shops.

Have fun and travel safely!

The TRF visit has been planned for about 3 weeks, but I did not want to commit to it until I was sure the weather would cooperate. I know a number of Bristolites visit this faire, but had I known anyone was looking at this weekend (Sunday is MOTHER'S DAY, for cryin' out loud), I would have mentioned it sooner.

Yeah, when I realized it was Mothers' Day is when I canceled. And I know a bunch of "us" (not me, but other Bristol folk) are going Memorial Day weekend, but that's when my kid graduates.

Next time, though, holler and I'll have my brother put you up at his place. We are a very mi casa es su casa family.

As nice as it would be to come up to TennRen (yes, to see you, among other reasons), I don't know if it's going to happen this weekend. Have fun!
